Landslide Leaves Nine Dead in Mexico

Since Saturday, six excavation machines have been removing dozens of tons of mud and debris after the landslide.
On Monday, the National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) confirmed that nine people died, including a three-month-old baby, after a landslide on La Peña hill that took place on Friday night.

This tragedy occurred in the municipality of Jilotzingo, State of Mexico, neighboring the capital. As of Monday night, three people have been rescued alive.
The National Civil Protection also specified that 584 agents from the Secretariats of National Defense (Sedena), Navy (Semar), National Guard, and personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) are still working in the area, collaborating with state and municipal authorities.
Federal, state and municipal authorities have completed rescue work and are continuing to support the affected population, which includes lodging and feeding 132 people in four shelters set up after the emergency, as well as medical and psychological care, delivery of medicines and application of vaccines.
During Saturday, Sunday and Monday, six excavation machines removed dozens of tons of mud and debris after the landslide, while houses and businesses were evacuated as a preventive measure.
